Endorsements

Former Sheriff,

David Lusby:

"I was Sheriff when we hired Carl back in 2005 as a corrections officer. Carl was an exceptional employee and was promoted to a merit deputy in 2007. Carl was a very good deputy and was promoted to investigations a few short years later. Carl has done an excellent job as a detective and was responsible for taking many dangerous criminals off of our streets, keeping Dearborn County safe. I have known Carl personally and have witnessed his dedication to the citizens of Dearborn County and that’s why I am supporting Carl for Sheriff and I hope you will too."

Dearborn County Prosecutor,

Lynn Deddens:

What does it take to be a sheriff?

It takes more than a badge. It takes integrity, experience, and a true commitment to protecting the people you serve. It requires someone who will enforce the law while upholding the Constitution—and who understands that public safety is the foundation of a strong community.

Carl Pieczonka has those qualities.

He is hard-working and dedicated, with real experience that matters. Carl started his career in the jail and worked his way up through the ranks—serving as a detective and now as Chief Deputy. He brings leadership, accountability, and experience to the job.

From interdiction work to serving as a certified cell phone examiner, Carl has the investigative skills today’s law enforcement demands. He has also worked internet cases protecting children and teens—work that requires both expertise and a deep sense of responsibility.

Carl understands that crime does not stop at our tri-state border. He has built strong working relationships with law enforcement in Ohio and Kentucky—connections that are critical to investigating and prosecuting cases, and ones his opponent does not have.

As a prosecutor, I firmly believe in this: you are not truly free if you do not feel safe. That belief is why I support Carl.

As the daughter of an immigrant, I never lose sight of how fortunate we are to live in the United States. Carl shares that understanding. He is committed to keeping Dearborn County safe while defending the U.S. and Indiana Constitutions.

Who we have as sheriff matters—for our safety, our community, and our future.

I know what this job demands—and Carl Pieczonka is exactly the sheriff Dearborn County needs.

Dearborn County Sheriff

Shane McHenry

I am proud to give my full endorsement to my friend, Carl Pieczonka, for Dearborn County Sheriff.

As you know, elections matter. We often focus on what’s happening at the national level, but the truth is, the decisions we make right here at home have a direct impact on our daily lives. One of the most important Offices that we elect locally is the Office of the Sheriff.

In Indiana, the Sheriff is a constitutional officer and the chief law
enforcement officer of the county. It’s a role that carries tremendous
responsibility—overseeing law enforcement operations, managing the county jail, and ensuring the safety of our communities.

As your Sheriff, I understand that responsibility firsthand. I manage a
$8.8 million budget, oversee around 100 employees, and operate a jail with an average population of 250 inmates. It takes strong leadership, sound judgment, and unwavering integrity to do this job well.

That’s exactly why I’m endorsing Carl Pieczonka.

Carl and I began working together in 2010 when he was assigned to the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit as a detective. Over the years, we worked side by side on high-profile cases. I saw firsthand the dedication, work ethic, and determination he brought to the job every single day. Carl is relentless when it comes to seeking justice for victims, and he never backs down from doing what’s right.

When I was elected Sheriff, even though we didn’t work together as closely day to day, Carl remained my go-to person whenever something needed to get done—and done right. I have always been able to trust and rely on him without hesitation.

Last year, when my Chief Deputy retired, I needed someone who was not only experienced and capable, but someone I trusted completely—someone who understood every division of the Sheriff’s Office and what it takes to lead. Carl was the clear choice. He earned that position, and he has proven himself in that role every single day.

Carl is more than just a colleague to me—he’s a friend, and he’s like
family. Over the past year, I’ve worked closely with him to prepare him for what it takes to run a successful Sheriff’s Office. I can tell you with
complete confidence: he is ready.

Carl Pieczonka has the experience, the leadership, and the character to be your next Sheriff—and not just a Sheriff, but a great one.

I’m proud to support him, I trust him with the future of this office, and I
ask you to join me in voting for Carl Pieczonka for Dearborn County Sheriff.

Indiana State Representative

Garrett Bascom

I’ve had the opportunity to work directly with Carl Pieczonka both as a
deputy prosecutor and now as a State Representative, and I’ve seen
firsthand his knowledge, experience, and approach to law enforcement. From the cases he brought forward to the way he handled investigations, it was clear that Carl understands what it takes to do the job the right way.

Public safety depends on strong, consistent enforcement of the law, but it also requires the judgment to recognize when individuals can be
rehabilitated and return to the community in a better position. Striking
that balance is critical, and it’s something Carl understands well.

The cases Carl handled were always well-prepared and thorough. His
attention to detail, professionalism, and deep understanding of criminal
law ensured justice could be served.

I’ve also worked with Carl on law enforcement issues at the statehouse and found him to be an asset to evaluate the real word effects of legislation
to help avoid unintended consequences. He understands not just what the law says, but how it impacts our communities, our officers, and the individuals within the system.

Carl has the experience and judgment to keep our community safe while ensuring the jail is run effectively, with accountability, structure, and a commitment to programs like the Jail Chemical Addiction Program and the Integrated Rehabilitation and Correctional Support Program, which serve as models across the State.

Carl Pieczonka is the right choice for Sheriff, and I’m proud to stand
behind him.
