Together they raised their son, Carson, a freshman at Miami University and former East Central High School standout athlete who earned All-Conference and All-State honors in both football and basketball while also excelling academically as a member of the National Honor Society.
Carl joined the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 as a jail officer and quickly advanced through the ranks. After becoming a Deputy Sheriff and graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2007, he was promoted to Detective in 2010 and assigned to the Special Crimes Unit. In that role, he investigated major criminal cases involving narcotics, burglary, robbery, homicide, theft, and fraud. He also served on the Dearborn County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, investigating online exploitation cases involving children. A certified cellular forensic operator and analyst, Carl has completed more than 1,000 hours of specialized law enforcement training and has been recognized multiple times with the Excellence in Law Enforcement Award.
In January 2025, Carl was promoted to Chief Deputy, where he oversees the daily operations of the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, supervises personnel, and ensures the safety and security of inmates housed in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center. He also serves as Chairman of the Dearborn County Emergency Management Board, participates in the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Suicide Overdose Fatality Review Team, and represents his community as Precinct Committeeman for Miller 7.
Beyond his professional service, Carl spent 14 years coaching football within the Sunman Dearborn School District, eventually serving as Defensive Coordinator at East Central High School and helping lead two state championship teams.
Carl Pieczonka is running for Sheriff to continue strengthening public safety, aggressively combat drug-related crime, support law enforcement officers, and maintain strong partnerships between deputies, schools, and the community.
